Your body’s form – either manly or womanly – is a message from God, telling you a key part of who you are and who you are to be by His grace. The debate over gender and gender identity waxes hot in our time. We may well face hatred, but speaking and living according to the truth is Christian witness. We have so much to offer: We have Christ and His gospel. This transforming truth, in the final analysis, is why Christians participate in our turbulent cultural debate over gender. We bring not only the truth of God’s order and God’s good design, but the transformative power of God’s saving message.1
The truth is that a biological man cannot EVER become a woman and a biological woman cannot EVER become a man. Biology doesn’t work that way. Manhood and womanhood are divinely created realities.2
- Stedman’s Medical Dictionary defines sex as: the biological character or quality that distinguishes male and female.
- Tabor’s Cyclopedic Medical Dictionary defines gender as “the sex of an individual (i.e., male or female) and sex as:
1. The characteristics that differentiate male and female in most plants and animals and
2. gender
It is clear from a medical perspective that sex and gender are the same. Sex is directly connected to gender. God’s good design is for only 2 sexes/genders and this design is confirmed by our biology. Regardless of what a person may feel – (and this is where we, as a society, have totally gone off the rails) – the reality is that they are either male or female.3
Biology is NOT a social construct. It doesn’t exist just because a majority opinion says it does. Biology and gender are the creative genius of God; two distinct and complementary sexes made to reflect the dignity, wholeness and beauty of their Creator. People today do not see themselves as made by God. They believe themselves to be uncreated, unbound to the Lord, and unfettered by any moral decree. They may do as they wish, use their body as they like, freely enter into homosexual, transexual, bisexual and/or polysexual relationships without respect to any theological or ethical system and they openly and proudly reject the wisdom of God seen in both nature and Scripture.4
A few years ago, during summer break, my son (who was 12 at the time) and I did some workouts together. He was all arms and legs, skinny, gangly pre-teen; not highly athletic; loves to play but has never been a sports enthusiast. We head over to the track where I tell him that we’ll run a quarter mile at a comfortable pace to start and he takes off, loping easily along. At 51, I was comfortable running a 2 – 2.5 min./quarter, but he’s running much faster at a 1.5 min./quarter pace. I get back to the starting line and he’s just standing there looking at me like, “Ok. Easy peasy. What’s next?” Over the course of the summer, we did some interval training, sprints, hill workouts, etc., and he blew past me in every workout. I honestly felt like I was standing still; like I’d never run or worked out a day in my life. After experiencing these crushing defeats over and over again at the hands of my 12 yr. old son, I came to a renewed understanding of just how awesome and distinct the differences are between male and female. You should have seen him laughingly gloat as he watched his mom finish the workout behind him and it was a beautiful thing! He’s 15 now, filled out a bit more and even on my best day, I wouldn’t stand a chance at beating him: That’s the glory and majesty inherent in God’s creation of male and female – the distinct differences that have nothing to do with equality and everything to do with image.
The thought of my son ever participating on a girls’ sports team as a competitor, is nothing short of ridiculous. It wouldn’t be competitive for him at all, and it would be demoralizing, humiliating and potentially dangerous for the girls. In the same way, it would be unwelcomed (to say the least) to find out that my son went into a men’s bathroom and was confronted with a transgender woman. Aside from the humiliation and embarrassment he would experience, it could be dangerous for him, as well. The same goes for a girl or woman walking into a women’s locker room or bathroom and finding a transgender man in there. It’s degrading, insulting and dangerous. Housing transgender men with women prisoners? Seriously? The insanity and inhumanity being shown by those in positions of power appears to be running loose and free over the rights of innocent women and men, boys and girls.
To think, even for a moment, let alone to enshrine in rules and regulations, the utterly foolish and irresponsible idea that transgender men can and should participate in women’s sports is the height of stupidity. A transgender man is NOT a woman. A woman does not need to take testosterone suppressing drugs. She doesn’t need to mutilate her body to “become” something she is not. Testosterone suppressing drugs to nothing to reduce muscle mass, heart size or lung capacity; let alone the VERY obvious differences in height and weight between men and women.
If a transgender athlete wants to compete, they need to compete on a team that coincides with their biological sex. That’s just common sense (obviously something sorely lacking in the halls of power). If a person really wants to compete, they will enter into a rivalry or competition with a person or persons with whom they have a comparable skill level. No woman is going to win in any sport against a biological man. Women deserve the right and have earned the right to compete in sports and to win.
Transgender men have a far superior physical make up in relation to women because that is God’s created design. It’s not that a transgender athlete can’t compete in sports; but rather, if competition is the goal, they need to put themselves in a position to honestly compete. Otherwise, their victories are nothing more than wins by means of cheating. And sanctioned cheating, no less, as the NCAA, IOC and other governing bodies have made it perfectly clear that they are more than happy to trample on the rights of women for the sake of their manic need to grovel at the feet of “wokeism”, “equality”, “non-discrimination”, “justice” and “fairness”.
It’s not unloving to declare the truth. Our witness to people who are living in rebellion against God – whether by embracing a new “gender identity” or otherwise – is grounded in theological truth. We know who they are; they are image-bearers made by God for His glory. They are human. They will taste true freedom only when they obey God by divine grace. and they will know true happiness only when they submit to divine rule.5
To say that a man can compete as a woman in women’s sports is denying that any difference exists between men and women. If that were the case, why do men have to take testosterone suppressing agents at all? I mean if men and women are the same (and that is really where we’re going) then why the pretense? Why not just get rid of the “biological construct” around the formation of team sports and just have sports be sports. Remove the “biology” component of same sex sports teams entirely. Just have teams of people – no messy biological sex component to deal with. Scrap the pretense of “transgender”. That way men will win everything all the time and the governing bodies, such as they are, will have won the day with their “equal” rights for all – all except for women, that is.

For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother's womb. I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, and that my soul knows very well. Psalm 139:13-14
